The project
The competition for the new Palazzo del Cinema at the Venice Lido, second place.
The design starts from a few assumptions about the brief and the character of the site, and from those follow the organisation of the parts and the relationship with what exists.
The space in front of the current Palazzo del Cinema and the Casino, along Viale Marconi, must remain legible and recognisable: a wide area, formally connected to the routes to and from the Hotel Excelsior, and at the same time open towards the sea. On the Quattro Fontane side a gap was identified that forms one of the backdrops of the new Piazza del Cinema.
The Lido has two fronts, the sea and the lagoon. The relationship between the two is considered fundamental: the arrangement of the buildings and the main routes underlines and enhances it, making it the element that characterises the design.
